In today’s Project Spotlight, we’re sharing a gorgeous new roof we installed in San Antonio using Oakridge shingles in Driftwood from Owens Corning. Project Background: A Referral from a Friend
We love getting referrals here at Dolan Roofing & Construction, as it assures us that the work we do is so good, our customers can’t help but talk about it.
This homeowner reached out to us after being referred by a friend. Her initial concern was that her roof was old and needed to be replaced. She hoped to schedule an inspection with our team to fully evaluate the roof, assess its condition, and get recommendations for next steps.
An Aging Roof with Major Storm Damage
During our inspection, we uncovered a few key details about this home. First, as the homeowners suspected, this roof was indeed aging and was approaching the end of its lifespan.
However, perhaps more importantly, there were clear signs of storm damage on the roof. The homeowner hadn’t known about this storm damage previously, and so the condition of the roof had worsened faster than it would have simply through aging. We advised her to file a claim with her insurance provider as a result.
Navigating the Insurance Claim Process
While our client was hopeful after filing the claim, the insurance provider delivered an estimate that was far below what was necessary to account for all the damage done to this roof. There were key components that were missing from the estimate, and worse, her policy did not include recoverable depreciation.
Unfortunately, there was nothing our team could do about the recoverable depreciation—but we were not about to stand by and let this underestimated scope go unchallenged. And so, we did exactly that, communicating with the insurance company over the course of two months to finally get the scope of the claim corrected.*
Recommending Budget-Friendly Options
Because our client’s insurance policy wouldn’t cover all of her roof’s depreciation, we kept budgetary considerations in mind as we discussed product recommendations with her. We provided the homeowner with multiple retail options for her roof replacement at a fair price.
She was able to choose from several shingles types and brands to pick the option that best suited her situation and budget, eventually settling on Owens Corning Oakridge shingles in Driftwood.
Completing the Roof Replacement
With the products chosen and the insurance claim issues resolved, our team got to work replacing the roof. While completing the tear-off, we noticed that several pipe jacks had been leaking. The leaks hadn’t yet reached the home’s interior, but the roof decking had sustained damage. We were able to replace the decking and resolve these leaks during the course of the roof replacement.
The end result of this project was a sturdy, dependable roof that met our client’s budgetary needs while providing protection against the elements—and adding plenty of curb appeal! Our client was happy with our work, and especially glad to have our team on her side throughout the insurance process.
