Know What Should Be Included in Your Roof Replacement—and Avoid Corner Cutters As a homeowner, it may seem like a roof replacement is a roof replacement, no matter who you’re...
When your home is hit by a major storm, you may not know where to start the roof insurance claim process. Don’t worry, we’re here to help.
When your home is hit by a major storm, Dolan Roofing and Construction is standing by to help start the process of fixing your roof. The first step is to contact us for a roofing inspection. We’ll send a qualified contractor to inspect your roof and the rest of your home’s exterior for storm-related damages.
As you call in your roof insurance claim, a roofing representative from the Dolan team will be hard at work preparing to meet with your insurance adjuster at the property. To document our findings, we will prepare an Xactimate Estimate (the preferred estimating software of most insurance companies). We’ll also pull weather data, combining this with satellite measurements of your property as well as a photo report. During the adjustment, our Dolan Roofing representative will walk your property with you and the insurance adjuster to help point out the storm damage we found.
Your insurance company will make their own determination of your coverage based on your policy and the damage to the property. If they agree you’re covered for the damage, they’ll write up their own estimate, then provide this along with a partial payment to you, typically within 7-14 days.
With this estimate in hand, the Dolan Roofing & Construction team will review the findings and to determine whether all necessary building components and code compliance items have been included so that your property can be properly repaired.
If there are discrepancies, that’s okay! Adjusters are not contractors—they are policy experts, and we are the construction experts. We don’t expect them to know construction as well as we do, and we are definitely not experts in insurance policy.
We will compile a supplemental estimate with all necessary documentation and discuss with your adjuster. Once you get an approved scope of work that we can build from, insurance will issue supplemental payment, and we can schedule your job!
With the insurance side of things taken care of, it’s time to fix up your roof. If you need a roof replacement, you’ll be able to choose your ideal roof color; if your roofing issues can be addressed with a repair, we’ll match your current roofing products with new materials.
On the day of construction, our crews arrive early and ready to work. Most residential roofs take 1-3 days to complete, depending on the size of the roof and whether you need a repair or a replacement.
Once completed, our quality control team will walk the job with you to ensure you love the new look! Our billing team will then submit a copy of your invoice to your insurance company to show that the work is complete. Insurance will then release the final funds to you so that you can pay your balance. Once your balance is paid you will receive our warranty certificate and we will register your material warranty with the shingle manufacturer.
* NOTE: DRC and its authorized representatives are NOT acting as Public Insurance Adjusters and will not negotiate with insurance on Customer’s behalf.
